Remote Social Work FAQs

What is remote social work?

Remote social work encompasses flexible work-from-home social work job opportunities. From clinical counseling to research and evaluation, your specific duties as a remote social worker varies based on the 3 practice areas of social work (micro, mezzo, and macro).

Do I need a degree to be a remote social worker?

In order to call yourself a social worker you do need a BSW or MSW (based on U.S standards). While remote social work type jobs may accept other degrees for a position, you need a social work degree to call yourself a social worker.

Do I need to have a MSW to be a remote social worker?

This depends on the job you are applying for and what degree requirements they have for aspiring applicants. I’ve seen some remote social work roles only require a BSW or any Bachelor’s degree (these tend to be macro, mezzo, or nontraditional remote social work roles). And others require a MSW or a license (for more micro roles).

Will remote social work jobs allow me to work from anywhere?

This varies based on the company posting the remote social work job.

How long have you (Sojourner) been a remote social worker?

I have been a remote social worker since June 2020. And received my MSW in May 2020. I do not have a BSW.
